Daily OSM Tip: TagInfo
Hi and thank you for reading another OSM tip! Reply to this email to say thanks or let me know what you want to read about!
What makes a road a road and a supermarket a supermarket in OSM? TAGS! A tag is made up of a key and a value, for example highway=residential
which tells you that this is a residential road.
There are a lot of tags and it can be hard to make sense of them! An interesting tool to dig into the fascinating world of OSM tags is TagInfo. It lets you search for, and browse, all combinations of tags that exist in OSM, and it has links that lead to explanations of what they are used for.
Here I have some information about natural=tree
:
In the various tabs you can get more information like the growth of tag usage over time and distribution around the world. Very interesting!
Happy mapping,
Martijn
